County Seat: Shelby
History: Cleveland County was formed in 1841 from Rutherford and Lincoln counties. It was named in honor of Revolutionary War Colonel Benjamin Cleaveland. Initially, the county's name was spelled "Cleaveland", but the current spelling was adopted in 1887.
