County Seat:
History: Hawkins County (formed in 1787 from Sullivan County, Tennessee) was named for Benjamin Hawkins. The county seat of Rogersville was founded in 1789 on the land of Joseph Rogers and James Hogan. Portions of Hawkins County became Jefferson and Knox counties in 1792, and another portion became Grainger County in 1796.
